Arc Creokote is a traditional oil based wood treatment, it has similar smell, colour and properties to traditional creosote but is non-biocidal. Arc Creokote penetrates deep into the timber to reduce rot damage and forms a water repellent layer at the surface that protects from water ingress and moisture. The product is a cost-effective decorative and protective treatment for agricultural fences, barns, outbuildings, garden fences, shed exteriors, trellis and wooden posts.
Features
Handling and storage
Store in cool, dry conditions in the original manufacturer packaging. Do not store with oxidisers. Keep stored product away from livestock and children. The product has a 36-month shelf life provided the container is unopened. If opened the product can be re-used in later applications provided it is sealed completely air-tight between uses. Longer storage times may result in bitumen falling to the base of the container, rigorous and thorough stirring is recommended prior to application.
Uses
Application
All timber should be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from frost, condensation and other contamination. Remove any organic growth with a stiff brush or fungicidal wash as may be necessary. Sealed or painted timbers must be stripped back to bare wood before coating with this product. This product can be directly applied to previously preserved wood or where oil based coatings such as this product or Creosote have been used. The product should not need to be thinned if recommended storage conditions have been maintained.
Coverage rate:
6–8m2/litre The product can be applied as a single coat in most applications but further coats can be applied at end user discretion for either additional protection or a deeper colour. Apply liberally by brush before lightly brushing back over applied areas to avoid any runs or drips. Product can be spray applied or it can be used to dip coat timber in immersion tanks. This product is best applied on mild or warm, dry days. Do not apply if it has rained in the prior 24 hours, the product should be applied to dry wood. Additionally, check the weather forecast before application, ensure no rain is forecast for at least 24 hours after the intended application. The minimum temperature for application is 5°C, it is not recommended to apply at temperatures below this as specified drying times will not be achieved. It is recommended to avoid applying the product on very hot days where temperatures are expected to exceed 25°C as the product’s natural tackiness may affect workability and hinder application. For optimum results apply on a forecasted dry day between 5-25°C. Drying time (to touch) is highly dependent on weather conditions and type of wood. Typically expect drying time to be in the range of 24 – 72 hours. Odour will continually reduce as the coating dries. The final shade is dependent upon the type of timber being treated, its absorbency, general condition and its previous treatments hence colour variation between different timbers will always be evident. It is strongly recommended to paint a discrete, test patch area prior to full application to determine if the desired finish is achievable. For cleaning tools or brushes use a hydrocarbon-based solvent such as White Spirit, Turpentine Substitute, Kerosene or Paraffin.
