Product details

Part of the fantastic 'Homefire' range of smokeless coal, Supertherm is a high quality and value for money product which is ideal for use on open fires and glass fronted stoves.

Supertherm smokeless fuel is a consistent and easy to light smokeless coal which generates a high heat, banks well overnight, and produces up to 80% less smoke than coal.

  • Great value smokeless fuel for open fires and glass fronted stoves
  • High heat output and low ash content
  • Long burning time
  • Can be banked in overnight
  • Suitable for use in smoke free zones

Homefire Smokeless Coals give out a consistently higher heat, and can last as much as 40% longer than coal. As a result, industry figures show that although coal may appear to be cheaper, it costs about the same to heat an average sized room with Homefire Smokeless Coal as it does with traditional coal, as you use less! So that means less work refuelling the fire, and no extra costs.

Many people are now choosing to use the latest smokeless fuels to supplement wood and peat. For some it’s because technological advances have made smokeless fuels more efficient and cost effective than ever, and for others, it’s because a contribution towards improving the environment, however small, is a step in the right direction.

How To

Glass Fronted Stoves

  • Build a small tower with the kindling and place the firelighters in the middle. Be sure to leave plenty of gaps for air.
  • Light the firelighters and place more kindling on top.
  • Fully open the air controls and close the door to allow the fire to get hot. (3-10 minutes).
  • Add small logs, or a small amount of solid fuel. Adding too much could smother the fire.
  • Once the fuel is burning, add larger logs or more solid fuel.
  • After 15-20 minutes adjust the air controls to the required level. No flames should be drawn up the chimney but the window should appear to be filled with flames. DO NOT reduce the air flow to the point where the fire is being hampered.

Open Fires

  • Build a small tower with the kindling and place the firelighters in the middle. Be sure to leave plenty of air gaps.
  • Light the firelighters and place more kindling on top.
  • Open the draught regulator.
  • Replace the fire guard and allow the fire to get hot. (3-10 minutes).
  • Add small logs, or a small amount of solid fuel. Adding too much could smother the fire.
  • Once the fuel is burning, add larger logs or more solid fuel.

Getting the Best from Your Fuel

Refuelling

  • Open all air controls/draught regulators to allow the fire get hot.
  • Add the required amount of fuel.
  • After the fire is burning, reduce the air controls/draught regulator to get the burning rate you want.

Slumbering

  • Refuel to capacity with banking plate in position if supplied.
  • Close down any air control.
  • When recovery is required careful de-ashing will uncover the still burning briquettes. New fuel should be added after the banking plate has been removed, and air controls opened once again.

De-ashing

De-ashing is the process of scraping ash from your solid fuel to help it burn better. Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions to de-ash your appliance. It’s important to de-ash gently to stop any un-burnt fuel falling into the ash pan. On an open fire, drawing a thin poker gently from the back to the front of each fire bar should suffice. If the ash pan is relatively full, empty it before de-ashing.

Ash Removal

Removing ash involves taking the fallen ash out of your ash pan. Your fire will burn more efficiently if you do this regularly. You’ll also reduce the risk of carbon monoxide gas escaping into the room. Never let ash build high enough to touch the underside of the fire bars, and always be sure to refit the ash pit door securely. An ash pan ‘tippy’ can help with ash removal.
